Presentation of the Program “Tomorrow I will be the one who drives”
The event presenting the new program of EduCartoon concerning road safety took place on the 20th of December 2011, in parallel with the opening of the cartoons exhibition by Michalis Kountouris. In the warm environment of theHellenicMotorMuseum gathered car- and cartoon lovers, people with a sincere interest in educational issues and pioneering ideas.
Mr. Nikos Nikas, head of EduCartoon’s planning, presented the vision and targets of Educartoon, explained the ways cartoons can be used in teaching and referred to the successful implementations of the idea from teachers in a school inRhodes.
Mrs. Aikaterini Kamilaki, director of the Hellenic Folklore Research Centre of the Academy of Athens, expressed the support of the Academy to innovative ideas of pedagogic nature while, focusing on the issue of road safety education, referred to the symbolism of the “iconstases” which stand “like signs of gratitude or burial monuments” in critical points of the road.
This was the starting point for the speech of Mr. Takis Pournarakis, journalist specialized in car issues, who referred to the “iconostases” as the holograms of our times, the voices of the souls. With the occasion of the eloquent sketch by Michalis Kountouris, where a stork carries the baby in the special child seat, he pointed out the omissions observed in road safety issues due to our lack of interest and education.
Mr. Spiros Ornerakis praised the accomplished artist Michalis Kountouris, indicating that his pictures are not just cartoons provoking laughter but sketches that convey messages and give food for thought with their brilliancy.
Positive remarks received also the animated videos prepared by the students of the “Ornerakis School of Arts”, which animated the Michalis Kountouris’s static pictures. Upon the completion of the event, the audience had the opportunity to visit the exhibition area and admire all of Michalis Kountpouris’s works. There was yet another surprise for them as at museum shop, they could buy everyday objects, full of colour and taste, decorated with a sketch. The experience in the world of the cartoons however is not over…
